November 17, 2008

FedEx Corp. said Friday it will raise its 2009 ground delivery rates by an average of 5.9%, starting Jan. 5.

FedEx previously said it would boost express and export rates by an average of 6.9%, while its fuel surcharge will be reduced by 2%. Those rates also will take effect Jan. 5.

The increase matches the 5.9% increase set by the less-than-truckload unit of rival UPS Inc. last month, which will also take effect Jan. 5.

FedEx is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
